BREAKING: Fresh Violence in Plateau—Two Killed, Four Suspected Attackers Neutralised

Admin

At least two people have been confirmed dead following a fresh security incident in Plateau State, while security forces reportedly neutralised four suspected attackers during a gun battle aimed at repelling the assault.

According to security sources, troops deployed under Operation Enduring Peace responded swiftly after receiving intelligence about armed men operating in one of the affected communities. The intervention led to an exchange of gunfire, during which four suspected attackers were killed.

Despite the security response, two lives were lost in the violence, highlighting the continuing security challenges confronting parts of Plateau State. Authorities are yet to release the identities of the deceased as efforts continue to restore calm and prevent further attacks.

Military sources disclosed that troops have intensified patrols and clearance operations across vulnerable communities to prevent reprisals and track down any remaining suspects. Residents have also been urged to remain vigilant and report suspicious movements to security agencies.

Plateau State has witnessed repeated cycles of violence in recent years, particularly in communities across Bassa, Riyom, Barkin Ladi, Mangu, Bokkos and Wase Local Government Areas. Security analysts attribute the recurring clashes to a combination of communal disputes, criminal activities, banditry, and long-standing tensions over land and grazing rights.

The latest incident comes as the Nigerian military continues sustained operations under Operation Enduring Peace, with authorities insisting that offensive operations against criminal elements will continue until peace is restored across the state.
