Former President Goodluck Jonathan has dismissed as “false and baseless” reports alleging that he was offered ₦500 billion to facilitate the division of votes in Nigeria’s South-South geopolitical zone ahead of the 2027 general election.
In a statement issued through his media office, Jonathan described the report as entirely fabricated and urged Nigerians to disregard the publication. According to the former president’s spokesman, there has never been any meeting, discussion, or arrangement involving Jonathan and any political actor over such an alleged offer.
The statement further stressed that Jonathan remains committed to democratic principles, credible elections, and peaceful political participation. It warned against the spread of misinformation capable of heating up the political atmosphere as preparations for the 2027 elections gather momentum.
The former president’s camp also called on media organisations and the public to verify politically sensitive information before publication or circulation, noting that false reports could undermine public confidence and fuel unnecessary political tension.
