Troops conducting security operations in Benue State have arrested five suspected militia members and recovered a firearm during a coordinated operation aimed at tackling armed violence and criminal activities in the state.
According to military authorities, the suspects were apprehended following actionable intelligence during ongoing clearance operations in parts of Benue. A firearm was recovered during the operation, while investigations are expected to continue to determine the suspects’ level of involvement in criminal activities.
The operation forms part of broader efforts by the Nigerian military and other security agencies to combat militia violence, armed attacks, and other security threats that have affected several communities across Benue State in recent years.
Benue has remained one of Nigeria’s major security flashpoints, experiencing repeated clashes involving armed groups, communal violence, and attacks on farming communities. Security agencies have intensified operations in the state to dismantle criminal networks, recover illegal weapons, and restore peace to affected areas.
Military authorities reiterated their commitment to sustaining offensive operations against criminal elements and urged residents to continue providing credible intelligence that could assist security agencies in preventing attacks and apprehending suspects.
The arrested suspects are expected to face further investigation and possible prosecution in accordance with the law, while security operations continue across vulnerable communities in the state.
