APC Fixes August 22 for Legislative Primaries Across Six States

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has fixed Saturday, August 22, 2026, for primary elections to select candidates for restored State House of Assembly constituencies and upcoming legislative bye-elections across six states.

According to the party’s timetable and schedule of activities, the exercise will cover four restored State Assembly constituencies in Delta and Kogi states, as well as legislative bye-elections in Gombe, Bauchi, Delta and Kano states.

The affected restored constituencies include Abraka, Isoko North II and Ughelli South II in Delta State, as well as Yagba West II in Kogi State. Their restoration followed court judgments and subsequent action by the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC).

Under the APC timetable, the sale of nomination forms runs from Tuesday, August 18 to Thursday, August 20, while aspirants are also required to submit their completed forms and accompanying documents by August 20.

The primaries will determine the candidates who will fly the APC flag in the affected constituencies as the ruling party prepares for the legislative contests.

Beyond the individual races, the exercises will provide another test of the APC’s internal democratic processes, particularly how the party manages competition among aspirants and resolves disputes arising from its candidate-selection process.

Attention will now turn to August 22 as aspirants battle for the party’s tickets ahead of the elections.
