President Bola Ahmed Tinubu is presiding over a meeting of the Federal Executive Council (FEC) at the State House in Abuja on Wednesday, August 19, 2026.
The meeting is significant as it is the first FEC session since June 29, 2026, bringing members of the President’s cabinet together as the administration addresses key national and policy matters.
According to reports, President Tinubu arrived at the Council Chamber at about 2:30 p.m., after which proceedings commenced with the national anthem.
Those attending include Secretary to the Government of the Federation George Akume, Head of the Civil Service of the Federation Dr Didi Walson-Jack, National Security Adviser Nuhu Ribadu, Chief of Staff Femi Gbajabiamila, cabinet ministers, presidential aides and heads of government agencies.
The council also observed a minute’s silence in honour of former Finance Minister Abubakar Alhaji, who died on July 30, and former Science and Technology Minister Professor Turner Isoun, who died on July 15.
The meeting comes at a politically significant moment, with the country moving deeper into preparations for the 2027 general elections.
Vice President Kashim Shettima, who returned to Abuja on Tuesday after cutting short his two-week leave, was reportedly not present at Wednesday’s FEC meeting.
As of the initial reports, the Presidency had not publicly released the full agenda or decisions arising from the meeting.
Attention will therefore be on the State House for details of major approvals, economic decisions and policy measures emerging from the council session.
