Kano Government Unveils Plan to Rehabilitate 10,000 Drug Abuse Victims

The Kano State Government has announced plans to rehabilitate 10,000 people affected by drug abuse, as part of efforts to tackle substance abuse and its social consequences across the state.

The initiative is expected to focus on rehabilitation and reintegration, providing affected individuals with support aimed at helping them overcome substance dependence and return to productive lives.

Drug abuse has remained a major public health and social concern in many Nigerian communities, particularly because of its impact on young people, families, crime prevention and economic productivity.

Under the planned intervention, the Kano government is expected to work with relevant agencies and stakeholders to identify beneficiaries and provide rehabilitation services.

Beyond treatment, effective rehabilitation programmes typically require counselling, skills development, family support and sustained follow-up to reduce the risk of relapse and improve successful reintegration into society.

The announcement is expected to draw attention to the scale of substance abuse challenges in Kano and the resources required to successfully rehabilitate thousands of affected residents.

More details are expected on the implementation timeline, selection of beneficiaries, rehabilitation facilities and funding arrangements for the programme.
