NMDPRA threatens to revoke petrol stations’ licences over under-dispensing

The Nigerian Midstream and Downstream Petroleum Regulatory Authority (NMDPRA) has warned petrol station operators against under-dispensing petroleum products, threatening to revoke the licences of outlets found cheating consumers.

The warning targets filling stations that manipulate their dispensing pumps or engage in practices that result in customers receiving less fuel than the quantity they paid for.

The regulator said operators found violating established standards could face sanctions, including the possible withdrawal of their operating licences.

Under-dispensing has remained a concern for motorists, particularly because consumers may not immediately detect discrepancies between the volume displayed on a pump and the actual quantity delivered into their vehicles.

The NMDPRA’s warning signals increased regulatory attention on ensuring transparency and protecting consumers across Nigeria’s downstream petroleum sector.

Petrol station operators are expected to ensure that dispensing pumps are properly calibrated and comply with regulatory requirements.

The development could also lead to increased inspections of filling stations as authorities seek to ensure motorists receive the full quantity of petroleum products they purchase.

Consumers who suspect irregularities at filling stations are encouraged to document their complaints and report suspected violations through the appropriate regulatory channels.
